In over a century of work, the International Institute has helped thousands of immigrants and their families escaping from economic, political, and social turmoil and searching for a better life. The International Institute of Lowell Archival Collection offers a glimpse into the struggles of those hoping for a better life and the hard work of the social workers to bring peace to these families. Documents describe stories of health crises, domestic violence, citizenship difficulties, and family deaths. But immigrant communities formed clubs, close relationships, and cared for their neighbors in ways that brought success to the many families calling Lowell their new American home.
This collection is held by the Lowell Historical Society at the Center for Lowell History.
